Go for a hike on the Baviaanskloof Leopard Trail

“It is quite possible to leave your home for a walk in the early morning air and return a different person – beguiled, enchanted.” – Mary Ellen Chase

I always talk about getting outside and walking to get your creativity flowing, or just to destress. Read some of my tips here.

So I decided to walk my talk, and go for a really good long walk. A hike. After the long lockdown period when we all felt a little hemmed in, Deon and I joined a group to hike the Bavaanskloof Leopard Trail with Go Baviaans. There were 8 of us, and it was an interesting mix of people, including 2 zoologists, one of who has been studying leopards in that area.

Apart from eating way too many peanuts – chocolate peanuts, wasabi peanuts, salted peanuts, peri peri peanuts…. (you get the picture), it was a life-changing experience. It’s a 62km hike over 4 days/3 nights. Spending the days walking, and the nights looking at the starry night sky, is better than any therapy. Taking one step, then the next, allows your mind to wander and then to stop wandering and drift, while your soul heals.
